Jan Blachowicz vs. Magomed Ankalaev and Jared Cannonier vs. Sean Strickland are scheduled UFC fights for 2022.

MMA NEWS

In the UFC Octagon, the final two months of the year will likely be remembered for all the right reasons. Islam Makhachev, a student of former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, won the UFC lightweight title on October 22 at UFC 280 by submitting Charles Oliveira in the second round. A major contender for the year’s biggest upset occurred in August. In the final second of their UFC welterweight title fight, Leon Edwards, who was probably headed for a loss by decision, stunned the world by head-kicking pound-for-pound champion Kamaru Usman. With Alex Pereira’s fifth-round stoppage of Israel Adesanya to win the middleweight title in November, the list of championship upsets grew.

Champion Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira were scheduled to rematch for the light heavyweight title in the year’s final pay-per-view. However, a severe shoulder injury will keep Prochazka out of action for more than a year, forcing the Czech boxer to give up the title. Instead, Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev will square off for the vacant title at UFC 282 on December 10.

The action then shifts back to the Apex for a crucial middleweight match to end 2022. On December 17, the main event will feature a contest between Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier. Although both competitors are coming off disappointing losses suffered close to the top of the division, the winner has a good chance of winning the championship.
